Hatchet 3: Hatchet 3 Horror Film is the 2013 installment in the Hatchet film series. It is a story about Victor Crowley, his murderous rampage through Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. The film stars Kane Hodder as Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn as Deputy Winslow, and Rileah Vanderbilt in the role of Misty.



Its use of special effects is the main feature of the film. In contrast to many contemporary horror films which rely heavily on CG effects, Hatchet 3 features mostly practical makeup effect and sets--resulting in some truly horrific moments throughout the film.

The cast delivers a solid performance, (click now to see video) with Kane Hodder standing out as an incredibly intimidating villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher movie. It is witty and funny enough. There are instances of humor in the film which add humour to bloody action.

Unfortunately, because the budget is extremely small (reportedly $1 million), most locations in the film are re-used locations from earlier films in the series. For example, the same boathouse was featured twice within the movie. Many of these locations seem like they were reused from previous films from this series. For those who have seen Hatchet or Hatchet 2, this could make the film appear familiar.

Overall, I was impressed by Hatchet 3 even though it felt very similar to prior entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by its cast members.
